University of York, Constantine College
O’Neill Associates acted on behalf of the University of York and Evans Property Group to obtain planning consent for Constantine College, the third major student residence development at Campus East after Goodricke College and Langwith College.
The new residences delivered 621 bedrooms across of range of accommodation including 4- and 5-storey blocks and 3-storey townhouses, along with a ‘nucleus building’ which provided facilities including college reception, provost office and student social and welfare space.
The Practice worked to progress proposals in the context of the approved design brief and masterplan for the wider campus and outline permission, as well as associated planning conditions and obligations.
Achieving a successful outcome involved working to site constraints relating to building heights, addressing issues on building design, built footprint coverage and the landscape framework whilst ensuring a high-quality environment for students.
