On the 24th September 2020 Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Janet Looker, conducted a ceremonial ground-breaking to herald the start of works at the Heworth Green gasworks site, which will see the construction of 607 new homes and a neighbourhood park.

The enabling works (demolition, remediation and infrastructure work) represent the first stage of the redevelopment of this large brownfield site and are being carried out by main contractor, Tolent.

O'Neill Associates has secured a suite of planning approvals to facilitate the redevelopment including Full Planning Permission for the enabling works and Outline Planning Consent (all matters reserved except for Scale, Layout and Access) for 607 homes, consents for which were secured in February and July 2020 respectively.
