Union Terrace
Union Terrace
We assisted a housing charity in obtaining a planning permission for the development of supported residential accommodation for homeless people on a car park site close to York city centre. This 3 storey development provides 35 resident bedrooms together with staff facilities, cafe, workshops, gymnasium, healthcare, one-to-one rooms, reception suite, offices and communal external space. It provides a modern building near to Listed Buildings, immediately adjacent to York’s Central Historic Core Conservation Area and within an Area of Archaeological Importance. The nature of the use meant that the proposal was potentially contentious and the Practice guided the applicant through pre-submission initiatives addressing concerns of officers and residents in a comprehensive manner. A strong case for the scheme was established, which helped obtain the support of the Police Authority and ultimately the unanimous endorsement of Planning Committee Members.
